Reviews for Eat Time Restaurant 食为軒
Review highlights
Based on 41 reviewsEat Time Restaurant 食为軒 is widely appreciated for its generous portion sizes and affordable pricing, making it a popular choice for group dining. Customers frequently praise the variety of flavorful dishes, with particular acclaim for specialties such as braised yam with pork belly and seafood options. The food quality is often described as surprisingly good given its value. However, some diners note that seating is limited, with only a few indoor air-conditioned tables available, leading many to dine outdoors where cooling is not provided. Additionally, the restaurant can become crowded quickly, and parking may be challenging. Overall, Eat Time Restaurant is recognized for its tasty cuisine and reasonable prices, encouraging repeat visits despite minor comfort and accessibility drawbacks.
We tried this place for an early Father's Day lunch. It was recommended to us by friends who told us of a few of their specialties. We ordered the Thai Seafood Special, claypot curry fish, sambal kangkung (water spinach), egg omelette with onions, salted egg prawn mantis, braised yam and pork belly, and black pepper venison. Braised yam and pork belly was a dish recommended by friends, and it was a good recommendation as the pork belly was tender and the yam crumbly and sweet. The use of marinade which presumably includes fermented tofu and spices was just right and it made the dish fragrant. This dish has a thumbs up from everyone. Another recommended dish was the claypot curry fish which we thought was average. It was spicy and had all the right ingredients but somehow lacked the oomph which we were looking for. The salted egg prawn mantis had mixed opinions - most of us loved the taste but found the prawn mantis chewy - which was rather odd. Not too sure why that is the case. The black pepper venison was alright though some felt that more black pepper would have added the necessary kick. The venison was just tender enough and not too soft. The Thai seafood special was a recommendation which we thought was average. It consisted of mid sized prawns and calamari, with lots of glass noodles, cooked with Thai sauce. Some thought it was too sourish, which others thought too sweet. Other dishes such as the sambal kangkung and fried omelette were average. Overall, service was average and it was difficult to get the attention of the waiters, probably as it was busy at that time. We may return to try other dishes. Felt that it could be a place where some dishes are better than others.
Upon entering this establishment, one is greeted by the hum of air conditioning, though its relief is only accessible to a select few seated at the three large round tables within. The majority of diners are left to embrace the elements, settling into the outdoor seating arrangement devoid of cooling comforts. Despite this disparity, the restaurant excels in delivering ample portions at reasonable prices, enticing patrons with its generous offerings. The flavors of the dishes are undeniably satisfying; however, the heavy-handed use of MSG leaves a lingering sensation that prompts an urgent need for hydration. While the dining experience remains generally positive, the prevalence of MSG imposes a notable caveat. Furthermore, the curry, while enjoyable, could benefit from enhancements to achieve a more nuanced flavor profile. Nevertheless, the restaurant's idyllic setting, complemented by the convenience of free parking, adds to its overall allure. Despite these minor imperfections, the establishment stands as a viable option for those seeking hearty fare and a respectable culinary experience. With adjustments aimed at reducing MSG content and refining culinary techniques, the restaurant holds the potential to ascend as a preferred dining destination, garnering praise for its commitment to both quantity and quality.
The food are quite nice and underrated, but need to come in group to go for ordering dishes. Tried yam pork dish, and claypot tofu, very nice. Worth to come back again for food and the indoor aircon breeze, and the price is very good.
This dishes from this restaurant was a surprisingly delicious. The portion of Kam Heong sotong was big for “Small size”. The stir fry vegetables with sambal was spot on. The pork belly & yam dish was also yummy! Pricing was also decent Looking forward to trying other dishes Only downside was limited tables & somewhat difficult to find parking!
Portion is big, most dishes are delicious and not expensive, love the set during weekdays. Just be sure to come early — it gets crowded fast.
This restaurant is located very near a large school in Bukit Mertajam. Parking can be a problem even in the evening. We ordered from their menu. We ordered a plate of pumpkin tofu, fried kailan with salted fish, a pot of salted fish and pork and also curry stingray. The food is quite good.
Some really good and should not miss dishes here, such as the thai style steam seafood, claypot curry fish. There is aircon seating indoor but limited. Price range is ok, there are small or large dish to choose.
